COVID19: Tamil Nadu Govt Extends State-Wide Lockdown Till April 30

Mumbai: To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday extended the existing coronavirus-related restrictions to 30 April. The statewide lockdown has been extended under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The government has issued guidelines to implement the “Test-Track-Treat” (TTT) protocol as per the advice of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on 23 March.

All international air travel of passengers is prohibited except for the purposes permitted by the MHA, read the notification.

As regards the enforcement of the “test-track-treat” (TTT) protocol, the government noted that the proportion of RT-PCR tests in the total mixture would be increased to 70 per cent “on the basis of best-effort”.

The Tamil Nadu government further noted that new positive cases seen due to intensive testing would be separated as soon as possible or timely treatment would be provided. Their contacts have to be separated and separated as soon as possible.

While ensuring that effective demarcation of control areas is important to break the chain of transmission and curb COVID-19 proliferation, the notification emphasised that “containment zones shall be carefully demarcated by the district authorities, at the micro-level, taking into consideration the guidelines prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in this regard.”

Meanwhile, On Tuesday, when Tamil Nadu reported 2,342 fresh cases of COVID-19, the number of fatalities rose to 16. This took the State’s tally of cases to 8,84,094 and toll to 12,700. Chennai recorded 874 new cases.
