CPI Asks PM Modi To Save Medha Patkar’s Life As Her Health Keeps On Deteriorating

Mumbai: The CPI MP Binoy Visam wrote a letter to PM Modi asking him to intervene and save the life of Medha Patkar and the agitated villagers. The letter was written as a complaint against the move to close the shutters of Sardar Sarovar Dam.

In the letters, he said that the villagers and the activists are revolting against the Gujarat government’s move to close the shutters of the dam and raise the water levels. The letter read, “I seek your urgent attention to save the life of Medha Patkar and hundreds of villagers in the Bharwani district. They are protesting against the government’s move to close the shutters of Sardar Sarovar Dam and raise the water level to 138.68 meters.”

He further added that the move might endanger the lives of many villagers, “This measure will endanger the existence of 192 villages and 32000 families living there. Development should be for people’s well-being not to destabilize their lives.”

Medha Patkar has been on hunger strike for almost nine days for the rehabilitation of the thousand households that were displaced by the Sardar Sarovar dam project. But after a week’s protest, her health has started deteriorating. On August 25 she started the campaign named Narmada Chunauti Satyagraha as a part of the Narmada Bachao Andolan at Chhota Barda in Madhya Pradesh.
