CPL Is Second-Best T20 League After IPL, Says Pete Russell

Mumbai: Caribbean Premier League (CPL) CEO Pete Russell believes the domestic T20 competition in the West Indies is the second-best in the world after the Indian Premier League (IPL).

CPL has had seven seasons so far in the eighth season to be held in September this year.

However, the fate of the tournament hangs in the balance due to the coronovirus epidemic.

“I think we’re in second place in the IPL. I don’t think we get the credit that we’re an occasional character. Everyone goes back to the Big Bash or Blast – and PSL is doing a great job. The tournament they ran there was first-class, but if you just look at the engagement levels we get, we are up there for sure,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Russell as saying.

“When people switch to the CPL game, they know where they are: sometimes with other leagues, you switch and walk: where is it? Is it a blast? Is it the Big Bash? It’s Not always the case, but can they sometimes be? ” Be a little, “he said.

Last year, the number of foreign players per team in the CPL was reduced from five to four.

“I always look at these leagues and think that it’s short. I’m not there to play 56 games, just because of the fatigue element. In my personal view, Big Bash did a bit of a slow down when they did that. The IPL is a different animal, but again – it’s a lot of the games they’re playing, “Russell said.

Earlier, Russell had said that the CPL organizers would not want their tournament to hit the IPL, which has been suspended indefinitely as the Prime Minister of India extended the nationwide lockout till 3 May.

There have been speculations regarding the organising of IPL in September or October this year.
