Crime Cases In Mumbai Escalated, Ranked 4th Among 19 Metropolitan Cities: NCRB

Crimes committed by juveniles also increased last year in Mumbai

Mumbai: According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, crime rates in Mumbai have escalated. The cases registered under the Indian Penal Code rose from 40,684 in 2019 to 50,158 in 2020. Mumbai is ranked 4th among the 19 major metropolitan cities in the country. However, it is ranked at 3rd position in the list of cities with the most cybercrime, after Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The data states that juveniles in Mumbai were arrested for theft, assault on women, sexual harassment, voyeurism, kidnapping, and stalking. In Maharashtra, an increase of 15.5% was observed in cases as their number rose from 3,41,017 to 3,94,017 in 2020. In the overall share of crimes, Maharashtra ranked second after Tamil Nadu, which recorded 8,91,700 cases. Gujarat ranked third with 3,81,849 cases and Uttar Pradesh was in the fourth position with 3,55,110 cases.
