DC-PBKS Match Shifted From Pune To Mumbai After 5 DC Members Test COVID-19 Positive

Mumbai: The BCCI has announced that the DC-PBKS match will be held in Mumbai instead of Pune on April 20 to avoid any further incidents due to an undetected case during a long-distance bus journey in a closed environment.

Meanwhile, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh contracted the virus after a few support staff members, including physio Patrick Farhart returned positive tests.

The development forced the team to cancel their Pune tour against Punjab Kings as the entire squad was put in quarantine along with routine COVID-19 tests. The results of a fresh round of testing conducted on April 19 (Tuesday) are awaited, however, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the development in a bid to “avoid any further incident due to an undetected case during a long-distance bus journey in a closed environment.”

Farhart was the first member to test positive, returning with that result on April 15. Only a day later, massage therapist Chetan Kumar contracted the virus, after which Marsh, team doctor Abhijit Salvi and a member of the franchise tested positive. Social media team Akash Mane on 18 April.

It is understood that the operation of the said fixture is subject to the RT-PCR test results. The BCCI confirmed in a media release that the positive people are currently being monitored and are under medical supervision.

“They will be tested on the 6th and 7th day and re-integrated into the bio-secure bubble of Delhi Capitals, provided both tests are negative.”

Also, in case of multiple positive cases in a camp, a franchise can field a team if at least 12 players are available, of whom at least seven are Indians and one substitute.

In the case of a team with less than 12 players, the BCCI will reschedule the match at a later date, and if this is not possible, the matter will be referred to the IPL’s Technical Committee, whose decision will be binding.
