Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Constituted A Committee To Equate Retired Soldiers’ Pension

Mumbai: In recent developments, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has decided to equate pension of retired soldiers under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) formula.

In a statement on Friday, the ministry said in a statement that under the OROP formula, a committee has been set up in this regard to work on the modalities and methods of modifying the next pension.

“Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the functioning of DESW, including welfare schemes for ex-servicemen, widows and dependents. Under the OROP, a committee was formed today to work on the modalities and methodology of implementation of the next amendment to the pension,” the statement reads.

The Director-General of Defense Accounts (CGDA) will be the head of the committee which will be represented by different stakeholders. In particular, Rajnath Singh has asked the committee to submit the report within a month’s period. According to a report, the salary of the three services and citizens is 37 per cent in the budget of Rs 4,31,011 crore. Their salaries are estimated to be Rs 1,19,559 crore. Apart from this, salary and pension exceed the actual amount allocated for modernization.

The statement said, “In a free-flowing conversation, the minister expressed his general satisfaction, but gave some instructions to the department and sought a response in a time-bound manner.” The OROP was implemented by the NDA government during its first term.
