Delhi Assembly Elections To Be Held On Feb 8, Counting On Feb 11

The crucial contest in Delhi is between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Congress

Mumbai: The Election Commission of India on Monday announced that Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 8. The elections will be held in a single phase for 70 seats.

Giving information to reporters here, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that the counting of votes will be done on February 11.

He said that election notification will be issued on 12 January. The last date for nomination of candidates is 21 January. The nomination will be examined on 22 January. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 24 January.

He said that in the last assembly elections, the voting dates were announced on 12 January.

The CEC said that Delhi has 1.46 crore voters and voting will take place at 13,750 polling stations and 90,000 officers will be deployed in the election process.

The crucial contest in Delhi is between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Congress.

In 2015 assembly polls, AAP won 67 of 70 seats while the BJP could win only three. Congress, which was in power for 15 years in Delhi between 1998 to 2013, failed to get any seat.
