Delhi Capitals Under Quarantine Following COVID-19 Scare: Reports

Earlier, the team’s physio Patrick Farhart contracted the virus and he subsequently underwent isolation

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals (DC) have cancelled their scheduled travel to Pune ahead of their next IPL 2022 match amid the COVID-19 scare, Cricbuzz reported. Their players and support staff will be quarantined in their rooms, the report added.

Players and other team members have been quarantined in their rooms with door-to-door COVID testing on Monday (April 18) and Tuesday (April 19).

Earlier, the team’s physio Patrick Farhart contracted the virus and he subsequently underwent isolation.

On this occasion, one player has tested positive and it does not bode well for the tournament. It is to be noted that IPL 2021 was postponed in the middle of last year amid the COVID-19 crisis and was later shifted to UAE. Hence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would like to avoid any such mishap this time.

According to Cricbuzz, the said player has tested positive in the Rapid Antigen Test. He will have further RT-PCR tests to confirm the result. Other players and squad members will also have to undergo a COVID test before going to Pune for their next assignment.

Notably, the Capitals are to cross swords with Punjab Kings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday (April 20).

As per the rules enforced by the BCCI, fixtures of teams that fail to field a playing XI amid the COVID-19 crisis will be postponed. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee and a final decision will be taken.

“BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season if a team cannot field a playing XI due to COVID-19. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the IPL Technical Committee,” states the rule.

Meanwhile, we are almost at the end of the first phase of IPL 2022. So far, all the matches have been conducted smoothly and BCCI would not want any trouble in the upcoming games as well.
