Delhi Records ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality Post Diwali

Mumbai: Following the festival of lights Delhi witnessed a ‘very poor’ category air quality in the morning.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality of the national capital is today at the high-end of the ‘very poor’ category.

SAFAR said, “Although the Seaway level is predicted to touch the morning of October 28 in view of air quality, the Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) level is likely to be the lowest.”

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), today the PM2.5 and PM10 levels in the past stood at 423 and 462 in Chandani Chowk, respectively, while the major pollutant level of PM2.5 was at 500 in the ‘severe’ category in Lodhi Road Road

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and 500 ‘serious’. .

The highest impact (if any) of firecracker emissions is expected to be moderate and if no additional emissions are added due to firecrackers, the air quality during the Diwali period will be ‘very poor’ to mid to high end.

According to SAFAR, the AQI will remain in the ‘very poor’ category, but there is no hope of extreme pollution for long.
