Dog Mercilessly Beaten For Taking Shelter During Rain

Mumbai: A dog was brutally beaten up for taking shelter in a Worli based building during the heavy Mumbai rains. He is currently battling for his life.

Animal rights activists have registered a complaint against the accused at the Worli police station on Saturday.
Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a stray dog was beaten by a security guard in residential premises in Worli, Mumbai, when he tried to take shelter during heavy rains. The dog is now in a coma and struggling for life after serious injuries on his head and stomach.

“The injured dog received serious multiple injuries, including head and abdomen, after he was attacked by the guards of Turf View building on July 24. This area is close to Nehru Planetarium and opposite the Vitesse showroom, where the CCTV cameras have captured this extreme animal cruelty,” said activist Vijay Mohanani, founder of Bombay Animal Rights (BAR) group.

It took 8 hours to file an FIR, while the accused were released within 20 minutes of being summoned to the station. We need to strengthen our laws on animal rights.

An FIR was lodged under IPC sections 429 and 34. Further inquiry is being carried out by the investigating officer Amit Shinde.

The dog is now named Lucky. He is getting treated in the Crown Vet clinic. He was admitted by activist Jayesh Shah of ‘HELP Animals And Birds.’

Poonam Shamtani, a local animal feeder, commented, “It was indeed a vicious attack on the young dog. Why can’t the various building societies offer a little shelter for the animals during rains? Earlier, some of the watchmen would also threaten me not to feed animals near their societies. There is a shocking lack of compassion.”

Meanwhile, Mohanani said that they will make sure that they give full justice to Lucky. He added that some of the animal lovers and feeders are going to protest regarding the same.

Dogs are man’s best friend. Not only dogs but animals should be treated with humanity. It is important that we look out for them and do our part in protecting them and their rights.
