Eknath Shinde Elected As Leader Of Shiv Sena In Maharashtra Assembly

Mumbai: In a huge development, Shiv Sena has elected senior minister Eknath Shinde as the party’s legislative leader.

His name was proposed by Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray at the party meeting held today at Shiv Sena Bhavan in central Mumbai. A day earlier, BJP had elected Devendra Fadnavis as its MLA leader.

While Eknath Shinde was elected as the MLA leader of the party, Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu was elected as the Chief Whip.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena MLAs will now meet Maharashtra governor at 3.30 pm. Aditya Thackeray, Eknath Shinde, Diwakar Raote, Subhash Desai and all newly-elected MLAs will be part of the delegation that will meet with the governor.

The development comes after Aditya Thackeray, the first entrant of the family to enter the state assembly, reportedly told party workers that he no longer wanted to be part of the government.

Earlier in the day, the Shiv Sena attacked the ally BJP a day after the Uddhav Thackeray-led party softened its demand for the post of CM of Maharashtra for 2.5 years.

Shiv Sena in its editorial mouthpiece Saamana said that the deadlock between the two parties is not only on the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra but also on the incidents which have happened in the past.

As the situation stands, The BJP is will to give 13-14 cabinet berths to the Shiv Sena but the former has demanded at least 18 including some top portfolios.
