Eng vs Ind: Suryakumar And Shaw Named Replacements As Gill, Avesh And Sundar Are Out With Injury

Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday confirmed that Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan have been ruled out of the upcoming 5-match Test series against England while Rishabh Pant, who recently tested positive for Covid-19, has recovered and has joined the squad.

According to the release, Sundar had administered an injection in the finger of his right hand during a three-day warm-up match against County Select XI. However, his recovery will take longer than expected and he is not fit bowl. As a result, the spinner has been ruled out of the remainder of the England tour.

Fast bowler Avesh Khan injured his left thumb on the first day of the practice match. He was taken for an X-ray and the result confirmed the fracture. An expert was consulted for further management of his injury. He has been ruled out of India’s tour of England.

“Opening batsman Shubman Gill suffered a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final. This was confirmed via an MRI scan. He is ruled out of the tour and has returned back to India,” stated BCCI in an official release.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has recovered from COVID-19 with two negative RT-PCR tests. He has started his preparations for the upcoming Test series after getting clearance from the BCCI medical team.

Bowling coaches B Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran have completed self-isolation in London and have now joined Team India in Durham. The Test series between India and England is starting from 4 August at Trent Bridge.
