Extend Lockdown To Create Infra For 3rd Wave: Maharashtra Minister Aslam Sheikh

Mumbai: Maharashtra cabinet minister Aslam Shaikh said on Wednesday that the state should ‘increase lockdown’ to prepare the infrastructure for the third wave of COVID-19.

Shaikh said that the Centre will have to come forward to help the state government and needs to relax its protocols for buying vaccines.

“The Centre will have to come forward to help us, it needs to relax its protocols for buying vaccines. If the Centre eases its import laws a bit, we will be able to vaccinate the people in 3-4 months,” Aslam Shaikh told ANI.

“I feel that lockdown should be extended so that we work on the infrastructure for the third wave, otherwise we know what is happening with those who did not follow (COVID protocols),” Shaikh said, news agency ANI quoted.

Maharashtra is one of the worst-affected states in the country. On Tuesday, the state recorded 40,956 cases, taking the state tally to 51,79,929. 45,41,391 people have recovered from the disease so far. The state currently has 5,58,996.
