Five Out Of Eight NE States Corona-Free Now: Jitendra Singh

Mumbai: Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for the Ministry of North Eastern Region Development (DoNER) said on Monday that five of the eight northeastern states are now corona-free.

He said that they are five states – Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.

“The three states of the region – Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram – are not corona-free, but there have been no new positive cases in these states in recent times,” Singh said.

Singh said that the credit for the reduction of cases in the North-East goes to the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has given priority to the development of the region in the last six years.

“Even during this emergency, the way air cargo was on to bring supplies to the area, there was no shortage in the area of essential goods. From March 30 onwards, supplies kept reaching the region through Air India and the Indian Air Force. It was Prime Minister Modi’s directive that the North-East, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and island areas of the country be given priority,” Singh said.

He said, “Governments in all eight northeastern states have worked hard and cooperated with the Center during this crisis. The North-East Development Council, headquartered in Shillong, has done an excellent job of coordination during this period.”

MoS Singh further stated that DoNER had already provided an amount of Rs 25 crore to the state governments of the region before the lockdown was implemented.
