Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram Takes Dig Over Economic Slowdown

Mumbai: Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday lashed out at the NDA government over the decline in GDP, which rose to a six-year low of over 5 per cent in the April-June quarter and the media was shown five fingers.

Minutes after Chidambaram exited the courtroom when reporters asked what he had to say about his CBI custody, Chidambaram quipped, “Five per cent. Do you know what five per cent is.”

The Congress also tweeted the video of Chidambaram, where he is heard talking about the 5 per cent GDP growth in the country.

Talking to the media about the Congress government’s 5 per cent GDP growth, a video of Chidambaram tagged outside the CBI court, “a quick reminder by P. Chidambaram, because he is afraid of the BJP government.”

Chidambaram was sent to CBI custody for two days in the INX Media corruption case.

India’s economic growth fell to a six-year low of 5 per cent in the fifth quarter of the fifth quarter in three months at the end of June, as private investment slowed amid global demand and the global environment.

After losing the tag of the world’s fastest-growing economy earlier this year, India’s GDP growth lagged behind China’s 6.2 per cent in April-June, the weakest pace in at least 27 years.
