Fuel Prices Will Increase Again After UP Elections, Says Lalu Prasad

Mumbai: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday termed the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government as “inadequate”.

He also claimed that the reduction in fuel prices is only temporary as it will be hiked again after the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections next year.

Speaking to the media, the former Bihar chief minister said that the Modi government has “played” the petrol price by slashing it by Rs.

“If the prices are reduced by Rs 50 per liter, it will be a relief. After the UP elections, there will be another hike in petroleum prices,” he said.

It is noteworthy that the Center on Wednesday cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 and on diesel by Rs 10. It also urged the state governments to reduce VAT on fuel.

Earlier in the day, RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav said that the price of petrol should be less than Rs 70 per litre.

“Earlier, BJP felt that Rs 70 per litre petrol was costly and now they have raised the prices above Rs 100 per litre. They should bring the price of petrol under Rs 70 per litre at least,” he said.
