Gaganyaan – 3 Indians To Be Sent In Space, In Rs 10,000 Crore

Mumbai : In a recent development a budget of Rs 10,000 crore has been approved by the Union Cabinet for India’s space mission Gaganyaan, for the purpose of which is to send three astronauts in space for a minimum of seven days, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced.

This will be India’s first manned mission. When this is complete, it will become the fourth nation to send India to space after the United States, Russia, and China.

Earlier, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) President Dr. K. K. Sivan had said that they intend to achieve the mission till 2022 in the. coming years.  ISRO hopes to deploy its largest rocket, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk III) to launch from Sriharikota.

The historical mission is expected to have driver capacity of three astronauts and it should be operated for at least one week. The total cost of the project is Rs. 10,000 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Gaganyaan programme during his Independence Day speech earlier this year.

In addition to other things discussed in the Cabinet meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the listing of seven Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) on the Stock Exchange through the initial public offering (IPO).

The astronauts will be inside a crew module which will be attached to a services module to maintain services for them, and then onto an orbital module. The orbital module will be placed on the launch vehicle for the launch,” ISRO chairman K Sivan had earlier said. “The launch will take place within 16 minutes, the crew will be transported from Sriharikota to a low earth orbit of 400 km. They will stay in orbit for 5-7 days.”

On the other hand, Russia has fully supported India’s manned Spaceflight initiative. In October this year, during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi an important Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ISRO and Russian Federal Space Agency OS ROSCOSMOS on joint activities in the field of Human Space Shuttle Program.

Whereas CCEA has also approved hiking Minimum Support Price (MSP) for copra by more than Rs 2,000 per quintal for 2019 season.
