Govt Releases Pics Of 10 Khalistan Supporters Involved In Attack On Indian Consulate In US

Mumbai:  The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released pictures of 10 Khalistan supporters involved in the attack on the Consulate General of India in US’ San Francisco in March 2023

Both in March and July of this year, there were assaults on the Indian consulate in the United States.

‘Request for Identification and Information’ letters have been filed against the accused three times, according to news agency PTI, in an effort to get the public’s assistance in finding them. The agency has searched for significant information that could result in their capture or detention.

The third notice features images of the remaining six defendants in the case, while the first two notices each have images of two defendants. People were given the agency’s word that the identity of anyone providing information about the accused would remain a secret.

The first attack, which happened between March 18 and 19, was purportedly carried out by several Khalistani sympathizers who attempted to break into the consulate building and burn it on fire.

The San Francisco police had set up temporary security barriers, but some “slogan-shouting Khalistani supporters,” according to NIA, managed to get through them and put up two “so-called Khalistani flags on the consulate premises,” as well as cause damage to the consulate building and assault and injury to consulate staff.

On the intervening night of July 1 and 2, the consulate was purportedly attacked once more by Khalistan supporters who attempted to burn it down. No serious injuries or damage were reported when the fire was extinguished by the neighborhood fire department.

The arson occurred on July 1-2, according to a video that Khalistan supporters themselves posted to Twitter. The words “violence begets violence” were written over the footage, as PTI had reported. Additionally, it displayed news reports about the passing of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was located in Canada. Nijjar was assassinated on June 19 as he was leaving the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, Vancouver, by mysterious masked males. He was a wanted man in various instances and a terrorist in India.

The recent allegations made by Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, that his country possesses “credible” proof of a suspected Indian connection to the murder have once again brought attention to the execution of Nijjar and foreign support for the separatist Khalistan movement. His remarks were the lowest point in diplomatic ties between India and Canada.

The NIA reported that it has opened an investigation into the San Francisco incident after filing a case on June 16 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention Act), the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. The NIA, according to the agency, sent a team to San Francisco in August to conduct case-related research.
