His Shoulders Were Bit Sore: McCullum On Russell’s Bowling Vs RCB

Mumbai: Talking about Andre Russell conceding 15 runs in their 13th over when RCB were 70/4, KKR head coach Brendon McCullum admitted that the 33-year-old wasn’t fully fit to bowl the over.

KKR all-rounder Russell dived on the boundary and suffered some problem with his bowling shoulder. Consequently, Venkatesh had to bowl one of his overs at the death. Also Read: He’s Probably As cool As Dhoni: Plessis On Karthik’s 6, 4 In Final Over

“Andre Russell around the boundary and dive, and unfortunately had a bump. His shoulder was a bit sore. But Dre being Dre, still wanted to try to get the job done, and he wasn’t quite able to. Those are things which happen in low-scoring games,” McCullum said in the post-match press conference.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their first win of the Indian Premier League 2022 by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 3 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday.

Brilliant bowling performance by RCB, taking four wickets as RCB took KKR to 128 before useful lower-order contributions from RCB’s batsmen took them over the line in a last-over thriller.

“I really liked the intention to be honest. I thought the intention was great. You backed off the fact that you played an extra batsman, and you batted a long one. You don’t anticipate being bowled out obviously,” McCullum said while talking about the match.

“Honestly I felt we didn’t have a lot of luck today. Every time we sort of went for our aggressive option, we seemed to find a fielder or things didn’t quite go our way. That can happen sometimes. But I want us to continue to keep that intent because that served us so well last year. The way we set our teams up at the auction, and the players we picked, it suits them as well,” the New Zealander added.
