Home Minister Amit Shah Urges Women To Stop Using Plastic Bags

Mumbai: Home Minister Amit Shah urged women on Thursday to give up the use of plastic bags as the plastic does nothing but pollute the environment. He said that in order to protect the environment the women should stop using plastic bags and start using a cloth bag for shopping which actually is long-lasting.

As he addressed the tree plantation drive, he further added that the centre was also adding some strong measures in order to stop the production of plastic bags once and for all. The prime minister Narendra Modi too had urged the people to shun single-time -use plastic to save the environment.

In his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister had asked to observe the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year as a day to make India plastic-free. He had also called NGOs, corporate sectors to come up with ways for safe disposal of accumulated plastic before the festival of lights arrives.

Shah said that the plastic was the biggest hurdle in the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Shah further said, “That is why our PM, in his Independence Day speech, urged the citizens to take up a movement against plastic from October 2,” October 2nd which also the Mahatma Gandhi birth Anniversary hence will be the starting day of this drive.

Shah congratulated the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporations for planting above 10 lakh trees under its Mission Million Trees in the city during the monsoon season. He while talking about the plastic ban also said, “I urge all the women to stop the use of plastic bags while going out for shopping. Instead, they can carry a cloth bag, which would last for 10 years. Though you would look somewhat old fashioned carrying such cloth bags, it would help in saving our earth from plastic pollution.”
