IND vs SL: Wicket-Keeper Batsman Kusal Parera Ruled Out Of Limited-Over Series

Mumbai: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday confirmed that wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera will miss the ODI and T20I series against India due to a sprained right shoulder. Perera sprained his right shoulder during training.

The 30-year-old was Sri Lanka’s main choice to become a wicketkeeper after Niroshan Dickwella was suspended for breaking a bio-bubble in the UK. Kusal has scored 3,071 runs in 107 ODIs with 1,347 runs in 50 T20Is.

Perera was the captain of the Sri Lankan team in England, but following a central contract dispute between the players and the cricket board, Dasun Shanaka has been appointed captain at his expense.

Sri Lanka recently played three ODIs and three T20 Internationals against England and the cricketer returned to Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening. Sri Lankan men failed to win a single match on the tour of England as they lost 3–0 in T20Is and 2–0 in the ODI series.

The SLC also confirmed that fast bowler Binura Fernando sprained his left ankle during the practice session held on Thursday. It is a lateral ligament sprain so Fernando will also be unavailable for India’s ODI series.

Earlier, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the revised itinerary of India’s upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.

“The tour comprising 3 ODIs and as many T20Is will now start from July 18th, 2021,” read an official statement from BCCI. The three ODIs will now be played on July 18, 20, and 23. While the three T20Is will go ahead on July 25, 27, and 29.
