India Announce Squad For Asia Cup, Virat Kohli Returns, Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out

Mumbai: Team India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup has been announced. Kohli, who had been rested from his West Indies tour and will miss the ODI in Zimbabwe, is expected to soon play India’s first game, which will take place on August 28 against Pakistan.

KL Rahul also returns to the India squad for the country; He was also previously included in the squad for the T20I series against West Indies but was eventually dropped after failing to recover in time for the series.

In addition, three reserves have been mentioned ie Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel.

While Iyer and Patel are already part of India’s T20I squad, Chahar is back with the India team after nearly six months in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe.

Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik, who made a remarkable comeback to the India squad at the start of June this year after consistent performances in the 2022 Indian Premier League, have maintained their respective places in the squad for the continental tournament.

Pandya has produced a brilliant all-round display in his appearances for the India team since his return, also leadsng the team in three T20Is (two against Ireland and one against West Indies).

Dinesh Karthik, meanwhile, broke into the first XI as a finisher and has also performed strong in his role. Other batsmen on the team include Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda.

Among the bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi are more in the spin department. Without Jasprit Bumrah, the BCCI has deployed three pacers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan which means Hardik Pandya is also likely to share the burden in the fast bowling lineup.
