India-Germany Has Very Close Relationship: German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Mumbai: In a recent development, India and Germany will sign a number of agreements signifying their broad-based ties and the “very close” relationship between the two countries, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday.

She made the remarks after being received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan where he was formally welcomed after arriving here on Thursday night on a two-day visit.

Speaking to reporters with Prime Minister Modi, Merkel said that she is very happy to come to India for the fifth inter-government job.

She said, “I would like to thank the Prime Minister with great warmth and decency which has taken place here. This is my fourth visit to India and I look forward to a very interesting event.”

“Germany-India are very closely linked. We will discuss issues of mutual interest. We also have the opportunity to sign a number of MoUs and agreements which show that we have very wide and deep ties.” Merkel said

Germany and India have been collaborating for many years and will build on this cooperation in the future, the German Chancellor said.

“It is a very close relationship. We have great respect for this vast country and its diversity,” he said.

As per reports, Merkel will hold talks with Modi on bilateral issues and about 20 agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries.

Merkel will meet President Ram Nath Kovind in the evening and meet with the Prime Minister at his Lokmanya residence.
