India Reports More Than 50,000 New COVID-19 Cases For 1st Time In 2021

Mumbai:  According to the Union Health Ministry, on Thursday, India recorded 53,476 new COVID-19 cases, 26,490 recoveries and 251 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total cases in the country increased to 1,17,87,534, including 3,95,192 active cases and 1,12,31,650 recoveries. The death toll has risen to 1,60,692.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 10,65,021 samples were tested on 24 March. “The total number of samples tested till March 24 is 23,75,03,882, of which 10,65,021 samples were tested yesterday,” ICMR said.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with 31,855 new coronavirus cases reported yesterday. The state government also confirmed that it topped the list regarding the number of vaccine supplements.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat are reporting a surge in the new COVID-19 cases and together they account for 77.44 per cent of the new cases, informed the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.
