India Should Now Aim To Send 1st Indian To Moon By 2040: PM Modi

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the high-level meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of ‘Gangayaan Mission’ and to outline the future of India’s space exploration endeavours.

PM Modi said that India should aim to set up ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and send the first Indian to moon by 2040.

“The Department of Space delivered a thorough summary of the Gaganyaan Mission, highlighting key technologies created thus far as human-rated launch vehicles and system validation. There are scheduled to be about 20 significant tests, including 3 missions for the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3) without crew. On October 21, the Crew Escape System Test Vehicle will conduct its initial demonstration flight. The conference assessed the mission’s readiness and confirmed that it would launch in 2025,” according to a statement released following the meeting.

The prime minister directed that India should now aim for new and ambitious goals, including setting up “Bharatiya Antariksha Station” (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040, according to the statement, which continued, “Building on the success of the Indian space initiatives, including the recent Chandrayan-3 and Aditya L1 Missions.”

The Department of Space will create a plan for exploring the Moon in order to realise this vision. This will include the creation of a Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), the building of a new launch pad, the establishment of human-centric laboratories, and the development of related technologies, according to the statement.

The Prime Minister also urged Indian scientists to focus on interplanetary missions, such as a Venus Orbiter Mission and a Mars Lander, according to the statement.

“Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence in India’s capabilities and affirmed the nation’s commitment to scaling new heights in space exploration,” the statement said.
