India Successfully Test-Fires Nuclear Capable Agni-P Missile With Nuclear Capabilities Off Odisha Coast

Mumbai: In a major boost to the country’s defence system, the new generation nuclear-capable Agni Prime missile was successfully test-fired from a defence base off the Odisha coast in Balasore on Saturday, according to the government officials.

Officials said the Agni-P missile is a new generation improved version of the Agni-class missiles. It is a canister missile with a range of 1,000 to 2,000 km.

“A lot of new features have been added to the nuclear-capable strategic missile Agni Prime during this test. The missile test met all its mission objectives with a high level of accuracy,” they said.

The nuclear-capable missile has been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

According to DRDO, the test was done at 11:06 am today. Telemetry, radar, electro-optical stations and downrange ships along the east coast tracked and monitored missile trajectories and parameters. DRDO said in a statement that the missile followed the textbook trajectory, fulfilling all the mission objectives with high accuracy.

“Agni P is a two-stage canisters solid-propellant ballistic missile with dual redundant navigation and guidance system. The second flight test has proven the reliable performance of all the advanced technologies integrated into the system,” it added.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO for the successful flight test and expressed happiness for the excellent performance of the system.

Defense Research Organization said Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy also lauded the team’s efforts to conduct the second development flight test with several additional facilities and congratulated them for their continued success within the same calendar year.
