Indian Army Hoists Tricolour In Galwan Valley Amid Reports Of Chinese Flag’s Hoisting

Mumbai: The Indian Army unfurled the Tricolour at Ladakh’s Galwan Valley on the occasion of New Year’s Day. This comes days after reports claimed that Chinese soldiers had displayed their flag in the region a few days ago.

Earlier, media reported that the Chinese government had sought “renaming” of 15 places in Arunachal Pradesh in its map two days before the new border law came into force.

The Indian government said last Thursday that it has seen China attempting to name some places in Arunachal Pradesh “in its own language” and asserted that the border state has been and will always be an integral part of India and “assigning invented names does not alter this fact”.

Responding to media queries that China has changed the names of some places in Arunachal Pradesh in its own language, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said that China had asked for such names in April 2017 as well.

After the Galwan conflict in 2020, several rounds of military and diplomatic talks have ended in a deadlock.

Disintegration took place at some border points, but overall there is a stalemate on complete disintegration. Disruptions at Depsang and Hot Springs remain a major sticking point.

The heavy deployment of forces on both sides of eastern Ladakh even during the harsh winter indicates that the conflict is far from calm.

India maintains that the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has been caused by unilateral attempts by the Chinese side to change the status quo and violate bilateral agreements.

It was therefore necessary that the Chinese side take appropriate steps in the remaining areas so as to restore peace and tranquillity along the LAC in the Western Sector.
