Indian Olympic Association Welcomes Postponement Of Tokyo Olympics

Mumbai: Following the coronavirus pandemic International Olympic Committee (IOC) to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the decision have been welcomed by Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The IOA also said that this decision will now provide relief to Indian athletes for training lockdown due to coronavirus epidemic.

“The IOA welcomes the IOC’s decision. Discussions were held by the IOC with the organizers and all stakeholders. Immediately after the lockdown is over, the IOA will hold meetings with athletes, federations, sponsors, etc. to revise the plans. This decision today relieves our athletes of having to train now during the epidemic and perform their best in four months from now,” the IOA said in an official statement.

Earlier today, for the first time in the history of the mega global event, the Olympics were postponed for a year.
The decision was confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the event and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to restart the Tokyo Olympics in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tokyo Olympics will now take place next year.

The Tokyo Olympic Games were slated to be held from July 24 to August 9, while the Paralympic Games were scheduled to be held from August 25 to September 6.
