It’s Anti-Muslim & Anti-OBC: Owaisi On Women’s Reservation Bill

Mumbai: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill, saying that it’s an anti-OBC and anti-Muslim bill. He also called it a “distraction” bill and a “check-bounce” bill.

“The Modi government wants to increase representation only for’savarana’ women,” the Hyderabad MP continued. “This bill will affect the representation of the OBC and Muslim women. This is a woman deception bill, anti-OBC, anti-Muslim bill,” he said in his speech.

The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (women reservation law) was met with opposition from Owaisi on Tuesday, who claimed that it does not include a quota for women from the Muslim and OBC groups.

“To whom are you lending your support? It is important to provide representation for those who lack it. We oppose this measure because it lacks a quota for women from Muslim and OBC communities, he told the news agency ANI.

“You are introducing a bill to ensure that the underrepresented are represented. There have been 17 Lok Sabha elections so yet, with 8,992 MPs being elected. Only 520 of these were Muslims, and there were almost no women among them. There is a 50% deficit, he declared.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, made a strong case for the women’s reservation bill, stating that his administration is dedicated to seeing that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, which aims to increase women’s participation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, becomes a law. He also urged MPs of both houses of parliament to pass the bill unanimously.
