Jamaat-ud Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed Sent To Judicial Remand For Another 14 Days

Mumbai: Mumbai terror attack mastermind and banned Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was sent to judicial remand for another 14 days.

Saeed was arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab province a few days before Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan’s first visit to the US. Then, he was sent on a seven-day remand, which ended on Wednesday.

With the award of US $ 10 million on his head, United Nations-nominated terrorist, Saeed was arrested from Lahore to Gujranwala to get bail before arresting cases of financing of terror filed against him.

He was sent to Lahore’s high-security coat Lakhpat Jail, where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is serving a seven-year prison sentence for corruption.

Saeed was given interim bail with his three colleagues a few days before the arrest. CTD, who had filed cases in five cities in Punjab, had said that JuD was involved in terrorist fundraising through charitable organizations, including Al-Anfal Trust, Dawatul Irshad Trust, and Maj Bin Jabal Trust.

In the meantime, India termed the latest arrest of Hafeez as “drama” and “cosmetic”. “This is not the first time that Hafiz Saeed has been arrested or detained. This drama has happened at least eight times since 2001, “said Ravish Kumar, the Foreign Ministry spokesman.

“The question is whether this time it will be more than a cosmetic practice and whether Saeed will be tried and punished for his terrorist activities,” he said.
