Jitu Patwari Replaces Kamal Nath As MP Congress Chief After Election Defeat

Mumbai: The Congress has announced that Jitu Patwari will now be the head of the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit. He will be replacing former CM Kamal Nath. This comes after the party lost the state Assembly elections as BJP won 163 seats

Umang Singhar has been appointed MP Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader while Hemant Katare has been chosen as the Deputy Leader.

“The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC President, Shri Kamal Nath,” Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal wrote in a statement, adding, “Hon’ble Congress President has also approved the proposal of the appointment of Shri Umang Singhar, as the CLP Leader and Shri Hemant Katare as the Deputy Leader of Madhya Pradesh”.

Jitu Patwari, 50, was elected as a member for the first time in 2013 from the Rau constituency. He is currently the Congress Secretary in charge of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee and was previously the President of the Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress. Notably, Patwari ran again in the Rau constituency in the recent elections but was defeated by the BJP’s Madhu Verma.

Patwari, who is well-known for his close relationship with Rahul Gandhi, earlier served as a minister in the Kamal Nath government.

The Congress, which was hoping to gain power in Madhya Pradesh’s recently finished assembly election, only managed to win 66 of the state’s 230 seats, while the BJP got 163.
