DC Approached MI To Trade Rohit Sharma: Report

Notably, Pandya made a return to MI after two years through a player trade with Gujarat Titans

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals (DC) approached Mumbai Indians (MI) to trade Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2024, as per a report by Sports Today. The report added that DC wanted Rohit Sharma to be their captain in IPL 2024, however, MI turned down DC’s request. Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit as MI captain on Friday.

Notably, Pandya made a return to MI after two years through a player trade with Gujarat Titans.

He replaced Sharma, who guided Mumbai to a record five IPL victories during his 11-year captaincy reign, just a few weeks after returning to his old side. Meanwhile, a recent report in the cricketing world claims that the Delhi Capitals approached MI about trading Rohit Sharma ahead of the IPL 2024.

According to Sports Today, DC sought a veteran player to captain their team for the upcoming season because their normal captain, Rishabh Pant, will be playing as an Impact Player. MI, on the other hand, declined the offer because they rarely leave their players. To get back Pandya, they had to let go of all-rounder Cameron Green, who was moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore in an all-cash transaction worth INR 17.50 crore.

Rohit Sharma is the joint most successful captain in the IPL

Notably, Sharma is the IPL’s joint-most successful captain, having led Mumbai to five titles since taking up the captaincy in 2013. He also ranks fourth on the all-time list of tournament run scorers, with 6211 runs scored in 238 innings at an average of 29.57 and a strike rate of 130.04.

The opening batter has collected 142 fifties in his IPL career and even has the second-most sixes (257) in the tournament’s history. However, Sharma has had a below-par showing with the bat in the last few seasons of the competition and would be eager to turn things around in the upcoming season now that the captaincy has been lifted from his shoulders.
