J&K Govt Asks Politicians Including Rahul Gandhi To Not Visit Srinagar

Mumbai: J&K government took to Twitter to respond to reports of senior Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad visiting Srinagar on Saturday.

The government requested them to not visit Srinagar as they’d be “putting other people to inconvenience”. “Senior leaders should understand…top priority would be given to maintaining peace, order & preventing loss of human lives,” it added.

This comes after Congress Rahul Gandhi accepted invite of Governor Satya Pal Malik to visit Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted saying, “Dear Governor Malik, A delegation of opposition leaders & I will take you up on your gracious invitation to visit J&K and Ladakh.”

“We won’t need an aircraft but please ensure us the freedom to travel & meet the people, mainstream leaders and our soldiers stationed over there,” he added.

Soon after this J&K government requested them to not visit Srinagar. In series of tweet, it said that “At a time when the government is trying to protect the people of Jammu & Kashmir from the threat of cross border terrorism and attacks by militants and separatists and gradually trying to restore public order by controlling miscreants and mischief mongers.”

They went on saying, “Attempts should not be made by senior political leaders to disturb the gradual restoration of normal life. Political leaders are requested to cooperate and not visit Srinagar as they would be putting other people to inconvenience.”

“They would also be violating restrictions that are still there in many areas. Senior leaders should understand that top priority would be given to maintaining peace, order and preventing loss of human lives,” it added.

Earlier, J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik had invited Rahul Gandhi to visit Kashmir but Rahul wanted the freedom to travel and meet the people, mainstream leaders.
