JNU To Honour Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman And Dr. S Jaishankhar With ‘Distinguished Alumni Award’

Mumbai: In a recent development, Executive council of Jawaharlal Nehru University has decided to honour Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar with the ‘Distinguished Alumni Award’ on the third convocations of the university.

The release stated that “Their highly distinguished career and achievement have made the university very proud and they are a great source of inspiration for JNU students and researchers.”

She got schooling from Madras and Tiruchirapalli. She got the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Tiruchirapalli in 1980, Degree of Master of Arts in Economics and M.Phil. From the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi in 1984.

She then enrolled for a PhD. With an emphasis on Indo-Europe trade in economics, but after a move from London, her husband achieved scholarship at the London School of Economics and was unable to complete the degree.

Dr S Jaishankhar did his schooling with Cambridge School Srinivaspuri and graduated from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He has an MA in Political Science and M.Phil and PhD. International relations with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where he specialized in nuclear diplomacy
