Joe Root Becomes England’s Most Successful Test Captain After Handing India Innings Defeat

Mumbai: After going 0-1 in the series after being dismissed in two seasons at Lord’s, the Joe Root-led England made a solid comeback in Leeds and handed Team India an innings defeat to level the series at 1-1. It took less than a session for England to get 8 batsmen out on the fourth day.

Courtesy of the victory in the Leeds Test match, Root created history as he has now become England’s most successful Test captain. Root, who was appointed England’s full-time Test captain in 2017, now has 27 wins in 55 matches.

He surpassed Michael Vaughan in this list, who led England to 26 wins in 51 matches. Vaughan is followed by Alistair Cook and Andrew Strauss, who led the Three Lions to 24 wins each. Following Vaughan are Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss, who led the Three Lions to 24 wins each.

While Root has become England’s most successful Test captain, it is difficult for him to win the Ashes series. Root, who is only 30 now, could become the first England captain to lead his country in 100 Test matches.

Talking about the current India-England series, England won the third Test by an innings and 76 runs to level the series 1-1. When asked to bowl first, the home team took the lead by bowling India out for 78 on the first day. Root continued his purple patch and scored 121 runs to take England to a score of 432.

With a massive lead of 364 runs in the bag, England were the favourites, but solid batting performances from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara on the third day raised hopes of a comeback from Team India. The visitors ended the third day with a score of 215/2 on the board.

Captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara had the responsibility on the fourth day, but both were disappointed. After being dismissed in the first hour, England made a comeback and registered a big win by bowling India out for 278 runs.

The 4th Test of the series kicks off on September 2 at Kennington Oval, London.
