Justice loses Its Character If It Becomes Revenge: CJI After Hyd Encounter

Mumbai: Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde said that justice loses its character as justice if all four accused of Telangana rape and revenge come a day after the murder case in a police encounter.

“I believe that justice loses its character as justice if it is changed,” the newly-appointed Chief Justice protested by forcefully killing the rape accused.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a new Rajasthan High Court building – in the presence of Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad – at a time when there is a nationwide debate about judicial reform, capital punishment and speedy justice.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad appealed to the CJI and other senior judges to ensure that there is a mechanism for monitoring the speedy disposal of rape cases.

Expressing concern over the increasing incidence of crime against women, the minister said that the women of the country are in pain and crisis and are crying for justice

Prasad said, “I would urge the CJI and other senior judges that there should now be a mechanism to oversee the disposal of these cases so that India’s stature as a proud nation under the rule of law can be restored at the earliest.”
