Karnataka Eases Lockdown Restrictions In Districts With Less Covid-19 Cases

The announcement was due to come on Saturday as the current restrictions expire on Saturday

Karnataka: The Karnataka government on Saturday relaxed lockdown restrictions in districts where the positivity rate of the Covid-19 case was less than 5 per cent.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that while all shops and hotels, clubs, restaurants are allowed to operate till 5 pm, lodges, resorts, gyms, private offices will also be allowed to operate with 50 per cent capacity in 16 districts that have less than 5 per cent Covid-19 positivity.

Yediyurappa said, however, that the lockdown will continue in 13 districts of the state where the positivity rate continues to be high. He further said that the night curfew will continue across the state from 7 pm to 5 am.

The announcement was due to come on Saturday as the current restrictions expire on Saturday.

Karnataka was also one of the worst-hit states in the second wave of the pandemic. The peak has now passed as the daily new cases in the state are around 5,000. On Friday, the state recorded 5,783 new Covid-19 cases and 168 deaths Friday, taking the total number of infections to 27.96 lakh and the toll to 33,602.
