Kejriwal Summoned By ED On December 21 In Connection With Liquor Policy Scam

Mumbai: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned by the ED on December 21 for questioning in connection with the excise policy case. Kejriwal was earlier summoned on November 2 but skipped it and called the summons “illegal” and “politically motivated”.

AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh have been arrested for their alleged role in the excise policy case.

The ED first summoned Arvind Kejriwal on November 2, but he did not appear in court, claiming that the summons were “vague, motivated, and unsustainable in law.” Instead, he chose to hold an election roadshow in Madhya Pradesh before of the elections.

In response to a summons from the Central Probe Agency, Arvind Kejriwal questioned the summons’ legitimacy and sought that the notice be withdrawn. Arvind Kejriwal also claimed that the ED notification was “politically motivated” in order to prevent him from campaigning in the next elections.

“The summon notice is illegal and politically motivated. The notice was sent at the behest of the BJP. Notice was sent to ensure that I am unable to go for election campaigning in four states. ED should withdraw the notice immediately,” Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.

It is said that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which granted licenses to liquor traders, facilitated cartelisation and favored particular dealers who reportedly paid bribes for it, an accusation that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has consistently disputed.

The policy was later repealed, and the lieutenant governor of Delhi advised that the case be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after which the ED filed a complaint under the PMLA.

Arvind Kejriwal is the fifth  AAP politician to face legal trouble, following Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Sanjay Singh, and Raaj Kumar Anand, who were all raided in the first week of November. Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are now being held in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Officials from the Delhi administration announced on Saturday that Arvind Kejriwal will go for a 10-day Vipassana meditation course in an undisclosed location on December 19.
