Kohli’s 9-Month-Old Daughter Gets Rape Threats Online, DCW Deeks Police Report

Mumbai: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has taken suo-motu cognisance on reports of online rape threats to Team India captain Virat Kohli’s 9-month-old daughter following the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup 2021 match.

The DCW has asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police to provide them with a copy of the FIR, details of the accused identified and arrested, and detailed action taken report by November 8.

“DCW has issued a notice to police over a threat made on Twitter to rape Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter. Our chairperson Swati Maliwal has called this ‘shameful,’ and called for immediate arrest of the accused,” the commission posted on Twitter, sharing an image of its letter addressed to cybercrime branch of the Delhi Police.

After the Indian cricket team’s defeat in Dubai, online trolls threatened Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma’s daughter.

In a tweet, Maliwal said, “The way the 9-month-old was threatened on Twitter is “very shameful”. The Indian team has always made us proud. Why such shameful behaviour after defeat. I have issued a notice to Delhi Police and urged them to arrest all the accused.”

The commission, in particular, took note of a tweet posted by a user threatening to rape the couple’s daughter. The post was made from the account @Criccrazygirl, which has since been deleted. However, some netizens have claimed that the tweet was made from a Pakistani account.
