K’taka Imposes ₹250 Fine For Not Wearing Mask In Municipal Corporation Area

Mumbai: The Karnataka government on Wednesday announced a fine of Rs 250 for not wearing a face mask in public in any of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) areas, with the state government issued the order in a bid to ensure that the public follows COVID-19 protocols.

The order stated that no more than 200 people would be allowed to attend weddings in closed places, whereas the limit is 500 in open places.

For birthday parties and other celebrations, a maximum of 100 people can participate in open spaces, while 50 can participate in close-knit areas.

According to the statement issued by the government, “Not more than 100 people will be allowed to attend funerals in closed spaces. For funerals in closed areas and cremations/burials, the limit is 50 persons.”

In addition, if non-air-conditioned party halls and department stores are found to be flouting the guidelines, they will be fined Rs 5,000, while air-conditioned halls, branded shops and shopping malls will have to pay Rs 10,000.

The state health department informed on Wednesday that 2,298 new COVID-19 and 12 deaths occurred in Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

The total positive cases in the state now stand at 9,75,955, including 9,46,589 recoveries and 16,886 active cases. The death toll in the state is 12,461.

The Union Health Ministry had reported that 47,262 new COVID-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, of which 77.44 per cent are in five states, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
