Live-In Partner Who Locked Up Fashion Designer For 22 Days And Raped Her Held

Mumbai: The live-in partner of a 27-year-old Kerala fashion designer who allegedly locked her in a flat for 22 days and raped her has been arrested.

The accused, Martin Joseph Pulikottil, fled Kochi after the designer escaped his flat and filed a complaint. Police said he was hiding in Thrissur’s Ayyankunnu forest area after escaping from his flat in Kochi on June 8.

Police officers searched the forest with drone cameras. The investigation team got information about Martin’s location from three people who were arrested by the police on Wednesday night.

The three men left the Kakkanad flat with Martin on Wednesday morning. The main accused Martin managed to escape as soon as the three were arrested and took shelter in the forest.

The shocking incident came to light when the 27-year-old fashion designer lodged a complaint with the Ernakulam police. Pictures of the wounds inflicted on the victim’s body by the accused had also gone viral on social media.

Kochi police said that the accused was going from one place to another. He was caught with the help of local residents and Thrissur police.

Three other accused have been identified as Dhanesh (29), Sreerag (27) and John Joy (28), who are residents of Thrissur.

The accused Martin had gone underground after the woman lodged a complaint against him.

“We carried out surprise inspections in several areas in Thrissur district. We have received information that other friends too were helping him during these days,” a report in New Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
