Mumbai: The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), with a majority of 311 with 803 votes. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah defended the bill and said that it is not against minorities.

Responding to allegations by the opposition bench that the bill was unconstitutional and undemocratic, Shah said it had no effect on the country’s minorities.

The bill was passed with 311 votes in favour, and 80 against the controversial bill. The bill will now be taken to Rajya Sabha for discussion.
