Maha Govt Transfers 86 Mumbai Police Personnel, Including 65 Crime Branch Officers

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government transferred 86 officers of the Mumbai Police amid an NIA investigation against suspended police officer Sachin Waze in connection with an explosive-laden SUV found near Antilia. Of these, 65 officers are from the Crime Branch.

The move has been taken in the backdrop of the recent controversy over the arrest of police officer Sachin Waze by the National Investigation Agency on charges of erecting an explosive-laden vehicle in the vicinity of Mukesh Ambani’s house.

All the transferred officers were stuck in the crime branch for years. The Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) officials transferred include API Riyazuddin Kazi and API Prakash Howal. The CIU is a unit in the Crime Branch which was earlier headed by Vaze and was in the middle of the controversy. After Vaze’s arrest, the NIA had searched.

CIU’s campus in the Police Commissioner’s Office at Crawford Market; Kazi and Haval were both questioned by the NIA earlier. Qazi has been transferred to Arms Branch and Howal to Malabar Hill Police Station.

Mumbai’s newly appointed Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale hinted at a major reshuffle as soon as he took office last week. Transfers have been effected under the Maharashtra Police Act Section 22 (n) (2,), which gives the right to transfer in extraordinary cases in the public interest.

This order has been passed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) Rajkumar Watkar. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh met CM Uddhav Thackeray at 7.30 pm on Tuesday evening.

This is their maiden meeting after Param Bir Singh’s letter bomb. Tuesday’s transfers were sanctioned at the level of the Mumbai Police Commissioner while keeping CM Thackeray and HM Anil Deshmukh in the loop.
