Maha Reports Nearly 16k New COVID Cases In Biggest 1-day Spike This Year

Mumbai: Maharashtra has recorded 15,817 new COVID-19 cases on Friday in the biggest one-day spike in coronavirus cases in the state in 2021.

The state also recorded 56 deaths and 11,344 COVID-19 recoveries on Friday. The previous highest single-day surge this year was 14,317 on Thursday, March 11.

In addition, 56 COVID-19 deaths were recorded during the day, with the death toll rising to 52,723. The case fatality rate in the state is 2.31%.

11,344 patients were discharged, which increased to 21,17,744. The recovery rate in the state is 92.79%. Currently, 5,42,693 people are in domestic quarantine and 4,884 people are in institutional quarantine. The total number of active cases in Maharashtra is 1,10,485.

Meanwhile,  Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Thursday that strict lockdown will be done in some parts of the state.

“Some areas of Maharashtra will witness strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. The government is going to hold a special meeting with officials before coming out with the lockdown measures,” Thackeray said.
