Maharashtra: Strict Lockdown To Be Imposed In Some Areas In 2-3 Days, Says CM Thackeray

Mumbai: As Maharashtra is witnessing an increase in cases of coronavirus, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Thursday that strict lockdown will be done in some parts of the state.

Thackeray’s statement comes a day after the state recorded its highest one-day spike this year. On March 10, 13,659 new coronavirus cases were reported in Maharashtra, taking the total to 22,52,057.

“Some areas of Maharashtra will witness strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. The government is going to hold a special meeting with officials before coming out with the lockdown measures,” Thackeray said.

The CM of Maharashtra said that the administration is urging people to uphold social distance norms and wear masks in public places.

Meanwhile, In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, a “strict lockdown” will be implemented in Nagpur from 15 to 21 March. District Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said that private offices have been ordered closed and government offices will operate at a capacity of 25 per cent.

During the lockdown period, shops selling essential commodities will be allowed to open and the liquor will be sold online.

Whereas, with a spike in daily cases in Kalyan-Dombivli and Nandurbar, the Maharashtra government has announced to impose a night curfew in the two districts.

As per the order, shops in the two districts have been allowed to remain open for five days from 7 am till 7 pm. The shops are allowed to open on an alternate basis on Saturday and Sunday.
