Amid Spike In COVID19 Cases Mumbai Mayor Warns Of Lockdown If People Remain Careless

Mumbai: With the spike in coronavirus infections in Mumbai, the city’s mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday urged people to be cautious and warned that there would be another lockdown if they remain negligent.

Mumbai is one of the worst affected cities in the country. More than 1,500 new COVID-19 cases were reported for the second consecutive day and more than 1,000 cases reported for the ninth straight day.

Cases increased in September – October, after which declined but infections have increased again since mid-February. On Thursday, the city reported 1,508 new coronovirus cases, with its case reaching 3,38,631, while the city died at 11,515.

According to official figures, 14,317 new coronavirus cases were reported in Maharashtra on Thursday, the largest one-day spike of the year, taking the state’s caseload to 22,66,374. There are 1,06,070 active cases in the state.

Meanwhile, the ministry said that the situation in Kerala is improving and informed that COVID-19 cases operating in the state have almost doubled in the last few days while cases in Maharashtra have doubled.
