Maharashtra Government Misusing Administrative Machinery To Ensure Shutdown: Devendra Fadnavis

MVA Government called a statewide bandh in protest against the Lakhimpur violence

Mumbai: Maharashtra Leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Monday has slammed the Maharashtra Bandh decision of Maha Vikas Aghadi government (MHA) for misusing administrative machinery to ensure the state shutdown.

“First time in the history of independent India, those who have the responsibility of running law & order decide in the cabinet meeting for a bandh. Earlier SC & Bombay HC had banned such bandhs & fined Shiv Sena. We demand that HC takes cognizance of it,” Devendra Fadnavis said.

“This is like state-sponsored bandh imposed and implemented with the help of police and administration. The traders and businessmen and their unions are being threatened to participate in it. The ruling parties are misusing police and sales Tax/GST administrations to impose bandh,” he said.

The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) the ruling coalition of the NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena had called for a statewide bandh on October 11 to protest against the killing of four farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

On October 3, in Lakhimpur Kheri, an SUV ran over four farmers returning to protest against the Centre’s three agricultural laws. Four other people, including a local journalist, also died in the violence that day, after which an angry mob allegedly lynched some people in these vehicles.

The farmers alleged that Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister of home Ajay Mishra Teni, was in the vehicle and later fled. Ashish Mishra has been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
