Patil, who is a former leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, is likely to join the BJP.

Patil’s son Sujay had joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections after the Congress party refused to accept the ticket from Ahmednagar, Patil’s base.

Since the death of Pandurang Fandkar, senior BJP leader in May 2018, the post of Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra has been vacant.

After the death of Fundakar, Fadnavis saw the work of the department for a few months and later the Minister of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Chandrakant Patil was given additional charge of the Ministry.

On Friday, Fadnavis called on Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and reportedly discussed the cabinet expansion
