All Demands Accepted, Get Back To Work: Mamata Banerjee To All Doctors

Mumbai: All demands by doctors in West Bengal has been accepted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and she has requested medicos to resume their work as ‘ thousands of people are awaiting treatment’.

“The state government is committed to resuming general medical services as soon as possible. The incident of June 10 was unfortunate. We tried to reach a solution consistently, “Mamata said while addressing a press conference in the evening.

Urging the doctors to resume duty, Mamta said, “We have never arrested a person. We will not take any police action. Health services cannot continue this way. I’m not going to take any strong action. Let’s have a good sense ”

She said, “I do not want to implement the Essential Services Maintenance (ESA) Act in the state. I want the junior doctor to resume the work because we have accepted all his demands.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have demanded also issued a fresh advisory to the West Bengal government over the ongoing strike by the doctors. “It is requested that a detailed report be sent urgently on the representations and an ongoing strike by the doctors,” the advisory read.

Earlier in the day, the doctors, who had worked for the fifth consecutive day, refused to meet the Chief Minister and stuck to his stance that he would have to come to NRS Medical College and Hospital to listen to his complaints.

Notably, junior doctors in West Bengal are on a strike since Tuesday after two of their colleagues were attacked by the relatives of a patient who died at NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
