Man Arrested For Raping & Torturing Daughter For 3 Yrs In Mumbai

Mumbai: A 50-year-old rickshaw driver was arrested by Mumbai Police on Tuesday for allegedly raping and torturing his 22-year-old daughter since 2019, Indian Express reported.

They have also registered a case against the victim’s 40-year-old mother, who had allegedly supported her husband and physically abused her by putting burn marks on her body after confessing to the rape.

According to police officials, the first incident of rape took place in 2019, when she told her parents that an unidentified man was stalking her for the past few days. The pursuer kept telling her that he liked her and since she wanted to get rid of him, the woman told her parents about it.

According to Indian Express the victim in her statement to the police said, “The next day, when I was alone at home with my father as my mother had gone to our relative’s function, my father started abusing me and subsequently forced himself on me.”

The 50-year-old man, who is a rickshaw driver by profession, allegedly started raping her frequently. Police said the daughter is said to have spoken to her mother and her sister, but they were told to keep quiet.

At the end of last year, when she developed severe abdominal pain, her mother and aunt took her to the doctor.

“Without telling her that she was pregnant, her mother and aunt, who knew about the incident, kept giving her medicines. They wanted to ensure that the child was miscarried without her knowledge, for which they took a prescription from the doctor and started giving her medicines,” the victim quoted a police officer saying.

To ensure that the woman remained unaware of her pregnancy, her mother allegedly burnt her medical files. According to the victim, whenever she cried due to severe stomach pain, her parents used to burn her hands and feet, police said.

In November 2021, her parents got her married to a 27-year-old man who lives in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai.

“The victim has told us that her father had raped her two weeks before her wedding,” an officer said. However, in the month of February, when she started complaining of stomach ache, her husband and mother-in-law took her to a local physician, who gave her medicines for acidity.

Since she was still in pain, she consulted another doctor and got her sonography done. Then they came to know that she was five months pregnant. The woman told her husband that her father repeatedly raped her.

According to the victim, when her husband called and spoke to her mother, he told her that her daughter was lying and that she should leave if she was causing a lot of trouble to the family.

They then went to the local police station where sections 376 (n) (punishment for repeatedly raping the same woman), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult with intent to incite contravention) were found. The case was registered, breach of the peace), sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (general intent) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police arrested the victim’s father late on Tuesday. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody for three days.
